Current KRITIS-members and alumni took part in an excursion to the solar railcar on the former Überwaldbahn in the Odenwald region. Once part of the regional railway network for mobility and freight transport, the line was decommissioned and later reactivated as a tourist solar railcar route. This example vividly illustrates the transformation of infrastructures and opens up perspectives on questions of resilience, sustainability, and adaptive reuse.

The excursion focused on discussions about the reappropriation and creative reuse of historical infrastructures, the visibility of multiple temporal layers within infrastructural heritage, and their relevance for contemporary challenges of regional development. It thus provided an interdisciplinary space for reflection and critical engagement with the histories and presents of infrastructural transformation.
