4th Conference of the International Bridges Group

After three successful conferences in London, Prague and Salisbury, the meeting of the International Bridges Group in 2018 will be taking place in Regensburg (24–26 August). The conference will bring together historians, art historians, and archeologists. The goal is to discuss new ideas on medieval bridges and cities in which these bridges are located. One focus of the meeting will be English medieval bridges, followed by bridges of Central Europe and the Byzantine region.

In February 2019, an international and multidisciplinary conference on „Urban Infrastructures: Criticality, Vulnerability and Protection“ will take place at the Technische Universität Darmstadt. The focus of the conference is on networked critical infrastructures in cities as socio-technical systems that require special protection strategies due to their vulnerabilities.

Das Eisenbahntechnische Kolloquium (ETK) wird jährlich im Frühsommer vom Institut für Bahnsysteme und Bahntechnik im Christoph-Lichtenberg-Haus in Darmstadt veranstaltet. Kennzeichnend für diese eintägige Vortragsveranstaltung ist eine Mischung anschaulicher Vorträge aus Forschung und Praxis zu einem aktuellen Thema mit intensiven fachlichen Diskussionen. Thema der diesjährigen Veranstaltung ist "Störfallmanagement – Die Planung des Unplanbaren“.

Mitarbeiterin/Mitarbeiter (65 %) im Bereich der Soziologie zu besetzen. Die Stelle ist bis zum 31. März 2021 befristet.

After three successful conferences in London, Prague and Salisbury, the International Bridges Group will meet next in Regensburg on August 25 & 26, 2018. This year, the group will cooperate with the „ Gesellschaft für Stadtgeschichte und Urbanisierungsforschung “, the Chair of European History at Regensburg University and the Research Training Group KRITIS at Technische Universität Darmstadt. The conference will bring together historians, art historians, linguists and literary scholars, archaeologists and engineers in order to present and discuss new ideas on medieval bridges and the cities in which these bridges reside. Topics may include the construction and maintenance of medieval bridges, the evolution and growth of medieval cities with stone bridges, the iconography of statues on bridges, the functions (practical and symbolic) of stone bridges, and the types of institutions connected with medieval bridges. Bridges as a cultural heritage could be another topic: How are medieval bridges in cities today perceived, preserved, staged and marketed?

Graduiertenkolleg KRITIS besucht das VR-Lab des IIB

Kritische Infrastrukturen virtuell entdecken
Das Graduiertenkolleg KRITIS besuchte am Freitag, den 03.11.2017 das Institut für Numerische Methoden und Informatik im Bauwesen (IIB) der TU Darmstadt und bekam einen Einblick in die Modellierung und Visualisierung von Kritischen Infrastrukturen in Virtual Reality (VR) und Augmented Reality (AR). Beim gemeinsamen Hands-On im Darmstadt Civil, Environmental and Safety Engineering Lab (DACES) konnten die HTC Vive, die Oculus Rift, der Cyberith Virtulizer, die Leap Motion und das Asus Zen Phone mit Tango und AR-Core Technologie getestet werden.

Vulnerability and Resilience of Critical Infrastructures in Cities

Over the last years, both research on critical infrastructures and efforts to protect those vital systems have strongly focused on the concepts of vulnerability and resilience. Both concepts highlight the need to address the interdependencies between different infrastructure systems and the risks of cascading failures. In particular, ICT and energy systems do not just rely on each other but are simultaneously vital for a range of other infrastructures. Their failure can thus provoke considerable urban disruptions.

KRITIS zu Gast bei der Katastrophenschutzübung der Leitstelle Lausitz

Proben für den Ernstfall
Am Samstag, den 30.09.2017, fand am Carl-Thiem-Klinikum in Cottbus eine Katastrophenschutzübung statt. Dabei handelte es sich um einen sog. „Massenanfall von Verletzten“, bei dem mithilfe von ca. 450 Beteiligten für den Ernstfall geprobt wurde. Im Zuge ihrer Promotionsprojekte waren Mitglieder des Kollegs eingeladen, die Übung zu beobachten.

Veranstaltung im Rahmen des Aktionsmonats „European Cyber Security Month“ (ECSM)
IT-Sicherheit ist nicht nur für Unternehmen, sondern gesamtgesellschaftlich von großer Bedeutung. Im Rahmen des europaweiten Aktionsmonats „European Cyber Security Month“ geht es darum, für das Thema zu sensibilisieren und Handlungsmöglichkeiten aufzuzeigen.
